IBM To Lay Off Staff Despite Strong Quarterly Performance
By Anna Johnson on January 28th, 2009It seems that not even a strong financial performance in the last quarter will save IBM staff from layoffs.
PC World reports that IBM intends to lay off around 1,419 people from its software group, with another 1,499 jobs going from sales and distribution.
The job cuts were disclosed on the Alliance@IBM board, a website run by the Communications Workers of America union. A spokesman for IBM Canada, which will be making many of the cuts, has confirmed intentions to retrench staff.
