IBM To Gobble Up Sun?

By Anna Johnson on March 19th, 2009

IBM and Sun Microsystems are discussing a proposal for IBM to acquire Sun for $6.5 billion.

TechCrunchIT reports that after factoring in the $2.6 billion in cash and short term investments on Sun’s balance sheet, the true offer is closer to $4 billion.

It appears that IBM wants to strengthen its server business by acquiring Sun’s Solaris server business and also sees synergies between its own and Sun’s open source standards.
