How To Track The Effectiveness of Twitter
By Anna Johnson on April 22nd, 2009So how effective are your Twitter tweets?
Well, if you measure effectiveness in terms of Twitter users sharing your posts with others, then you’ll want to track ‘retweets’.
A ‘retweet’ is a re-post of a Twitter user’s Twitter post. You know something is a retweet because it starts with ‘RT @’. You can use such tools as Retweetist and Retweetradar to track retweets.
Depending on your goals, other measures of Twitter effectiveness may be more or less relevant.
For example, you might measure general Twitter-derived traffic to your website, clicks on links you post in your tweets, or subscribers, sales or other conversions that derive from Twitter.
Among other things, you can use tracking codes and cookies to measure Twitter-derived clicks and conversions.
Finally, you might also consider the number of followers you acquire as a form of effectiveness.
