How To Keep Your Email ‘Posties’ (i.e. ISPs) Happy
By Anna Johnson on August 14th, 2008A big part of getting your emails delivered is to make sure your email ‘posties’ – i.e. the Internet service providers (ISPs) that deliver your email into your subscribers’ inboxes are happy to do so.
Just as off-line postal services don’t want their posties delivering a huge load of unwanted junk mail (not unless it’s paid for!), ISPs don’t want the burden of carrying and distributing spam. It clogs up their servers and, in so doing, costs them bandwidth and money.
So how do you ensure ISPs know YOUR emails aren’t spam? How about asking them… or better yet, go and read their publicly available guidelines for helping volume senders navigate the email distribution waters. Here are links to some of the better know ISP guidelines for bulk email senders:
