Habbo Makes $74 Million Selling Virtual Goods And Advertising

By Anna Johnson on April 3rd, 2009

Sulake, the parent company of Helsinki-based teen virtual world Habbo, has reported making $74 million (54 million Euros) in sales in 2008, based on selling virtual goods (the bulk of its revenues) and advertising.

As reported by TechCrunch, Habbo was slightly profitable on a net income basis, but had slim sub-10 percent profit margins.

One wonders how a company that sells advertising and virtual goods could have such tiny margins… but operating a virtual world is presumably quite costly!

Habbo says it gets about 11.5 million unique visitors per month and is populated by over 120 million Habbo characters.
