Google’s Share of Advertisers Nears All Time High
By Anna Johnson on October 20th, 2009According to AdGooroo’s recently released ‘Search Engine Advertising Update – Q309′ the number of advertisers on Google increased slightly in the last quarter, leading Google to near an all-time high with an 81.2 percent share of Internet advertisers.
Apart from that, the number of active Internet advertisers has largely remained flat since January of 2009. While active Google and Yahoo advertisers essentially remained the same in the last quarter, Bing’s first-page advertisers declined by around 8 percent. So, while Google’s advertiser share is 81.2 percent, Yahoo’s share is 26 percent and Bing’s share is 12.8 percent (numbers don’t add to 100 percent as some advertisers advertise on each search engine).
Interestingly, AdGooroo reckons the search engines have differentiated themselves in the minds of advertisers.
Google appears to be attracting more branded retailers, such as Walmart, Ebay, and Nordstrom; Yahoo – with its lower cost per clicks – appears to be attracting branded comparison shopping engines, such Expedia, Lowfares, BookingBuddy, and Calibex; and Bing, as the least expensive platform, seems to be getting unbranded comparison engines, including Nextag, k8yel.com, bestcompare.net, shopwhiz.net, and underpay.biz.
