Google’s Revenues Drop By 3 Percent

By Anna Johnson on April 20th, 2009

Google reported mixed results for its first quarter of 2009. While search advertising revenues were steady – and Google site revenues were up – its Adsense network revenues were down, resulting in an overall quarter-to-quarter drop in total revenues of 3 percent.

Reporting its Q1 earnings last week, Google revealed that ad revenues generated by its AdSense advertising network were $1.64 billion, a 3 percent drop compared to Q1 in 2008.

Adsense also dropped as a percentage of Google’s revenues, falling from 33 percent in the first quarter of 2008 to 30 percent in this last quarter.

At the same time, ad sales on Google.com were steady and Google site revenues were 9 percent higher than those the year before, reaching $3.7 billion.

Overall, Google experienced its first ever quarter-to-quarter decline in revenues, reporting total revenues of $5.5 billion for the quarter, a drop of 3 percent from the quarter before, but still 6 percent over total revenues reported in Q1 2008.
