Google Ventures Launches
By Anna Johnson on April 1st, 2009Google has officially launched its venture fund, Google Ventures, to be led by Bill Maris and Rich Miner.
The Google Ventures team plans to make investments ranging from seed amounts to tens of millions of dollars, in a range of industries including consumer Internet, software, hardware, clean-tech, bio-tech and health care.
Google Ventures says that, first and foremost, it is seeking to invest in entrepreneurs who are tackling problems in creative and innovative ways and whose companies have the potential for generating significant financial returns.
Google Ventures says it’s willing to co-invest with other venture firms and plans to actively help and create value in its investee companies. It won’t require a given venture to have any commercial arrangement with Google to make an investment.
Interestingly, Google Ventures will NOT be a strategic vehicle for Google to make acquisitions.
