Google Starts Rolling Out Caffeine

By Anna Johnson on November 16th, 2009

Matt Cutts – head of Google’s Webspam team and spokesman for many things related to Google search – has revealed that Google will roll out its new indexing infrastructure, Caffeine, after the upcoming holiday period.

In the meantime, Google has deployed Caffeine in one of its data centers, with the upshot that a small portion of Google users will get to experience Caffeine when performing searches.

How significant is Caffeine to Internet marketers and search engine optimizers?

While it constitutes a significant technological development – since Caffeine is essentially a re-write of the software architecture powering Google’s search engine – it may not make much practical difference to rankings.

According to Web Pro News, Matt Cutts has said Caffeine shouldn’t make a huge difference. What’s more, Google will implement Caffeine slowly and take user feedback into account.

Of course, no ‘huge difference’ can still mean that a small number of websites WILL be affected!

Meanwhile, Google certainly expects Caffeine to deliver a much better search experience to users, with faster results and possibly better handling of real-time and semantic results on offer.
