Google Releases Self-Service Overlay Ads on YouTube

By Anna Johnson on March 22nd, 2010

Google has released a new feature in Display Ad Builder that lets you create overlay and companion ads on YouTube.

Display Ad Builder is a self-service tool within Google’s AdWords platform that lets you develop a display ad (e.g. banner ad) from a selection of templates. Now, with InVideo, you will be able to choose from a range of overlay ad templates to place animated ads on YouTube videos.

InVideo ads are animated overlays that appear at the bottom part of a video that a user is watching. You can buy YouTube overlay ads on a CPC (cost per click) or CPM (cost per thousand impressions) basis, and match your ads to YouTube videos based on numerous criteria, such as demographics or content categories, or even on a video by video basis.

Can other video providers use the same? Are these overlay ads only meant for flvs? Referring http://adsense.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=cs&answer=73987. Wanted to check if the same can be applied to mp4 content also.
