Google Maintains Search Engine Dominance in October 2010
By Anna Johnson on November 23rd, 2010Google increased its search engine usage market share by 0.2 percent between September and October 2010, according to comScore Inc.’s October 2010 U.S. search engine rankings.
If the release of Google Instant in September has had any impact on Google’s search engine market share, then the impact has been positive. Google Instant Search displays search engine results at the same time as a user (i.e. one with a Google account) is typing in their search engine query.
Whilst Google’s search engine share increased in October, Yahoo! lost 0.2 percentage points and Bing gained 0.3 percentage points.
Here are the top 5 search engines and their share of the search engine market in October 2010:
- Google: 66.3 percent (up 0.2 percent)
- Yahoo! Sites: 16.5 percent (down 0.2 percent)
- Bing: 11.5 percent (up 0.3 percent)
- Ask Network: 3.6 percent (down 0.1 percent)
- AOL LLC Network: 2.1 percent (down 0.2 percent)
