Google Instant Search Boosts Google’s U.S. Search Engine Share

By Anna Johnson on October 19th, 2010

According to comScore’s September 2010 U.S. search engine rankings, Google Sites had 66.1 percent of the U.S. search market, up 0.7 share points from August 2010.

comScore attributes the growth to Google’s recently introduced Instant Search, which displays search results in real-time to search engine users with a Google account.

Yahoo! Sites had the next biggest share of the U.S. search market with 16.7 percent (down from 17.4 percent in August 2010), followed by Microsoft sites with 11.2 percent (roughly the same as its 11.1 percent in August). Ask Network had 3.7 percent of searches (down from 3.8 percent in August), while AOL LLC Network had 2.3 percent (the same as in August).
