Google In Talks To Acquire Twitter

By Anna Johnson on April 6th, 2009

Inside sources have told TechCrunch that Google is in talks to acquire Twitter. While the sources differ on how far-gone the discussions are, they’ve all confirmed that they are taking place.

Commenting on the rumors, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said that Twitter ‘engages in discussions with other companies regularly and on a variety of subjects.’

Whatever. Google acquiring Twitter makes sense on a number of levels. And it won’t be the first time Twitter’s other co-founder, Evan Williams, has sold something to Google. He sold Blogger to Google several years ago.

But TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington makes a great point when it raises the question of, ‘where’s Microsoft in all of this?’ Is the IT industry’s other behemoth going to sit by while Google buys the Internet’s hottest property right now?
