Google CEO Resigns From Apple Board
By Anna Johnson on August 4th, 2009Google CEO Eric Schmidt has resigned from Apple’s Board of Directors, after nearly 3 years as a Board member. The statement made by Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, pretty much sums up why:
“Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple’s Board.”
Indeed, Schmidt’s resignation comes just days after the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) began an investigation into why Apple rejected Google’s Google Voice application as an official iPhone app.
