Google: Caffeine Generates 50 Percent ‘Fresher’ Search Results

By Anna Johnson on June 14th, 2010

Last week Google announced the completion of its new new web indexing system called Caffeine. Involving the expansion of Google’s index and a much faster, ongoing process of indexing the web, Caffeine has two main implications:

  1. Website owners will have their web content added to, and updated in, Google’s index much more quickly than previously; and
  2. Google search engine users will get more relevant search results, faster.

To be specific, according to Google, the implementation of Caffeine means search engine users will get 50 percent ‘fresher’ results for their web searches. Caffeine also represents the largest collection of web content Google has offered to date.

Announcing the completion of Caffeine, Google software engineer Carrie Grimes said:

“Whether it’s a news story, a blog or a forum post, you can now find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible ever before.”

By and large, Caffeine is good news for Internet marketers and website owners who regularly update their content. Provided their content is ‘relevant’ for the keyword search phrases they are targeting, they probably have a better chance of a higher ranking on Google.

On the flipside, Caffeine is not-so-good news for those who don’t update or expand their content.

Because Google will be refreshing its index much more frequently, it will be constantly looking for the most relevant results to display for any given search phrase.
