Go Daddy Launches X.co World’s Shortest URL Shortener
By Anna Johnson on September 10th, 2010Domain name registrar Go Daddy has launched what it calls the world’s shortest URL shortener, X.co.
You can use X.co to shorten any URL straight from the site. No sign-up is required and you can use the URL it generates to include in Twitter tweets or Facebook posts, blog posts, comments, emails and so on. Your X.co URL will never expire and you can even drag the ‘Shorten with X.co’ icon onto your web browser toolbar and click on it whenever you want to use X.co to shorten URLs as you surf the Internet.
If you are already a Go Daddy user you can log in to your account to get access to additional X.co features. These include the ability to customize links – i.e. you can customize the name of a URL before sharing it – statistics and sharing features. Alternatively, you can create a free account to access these features.
In terms of the statistics provided by Go Daddy’s X.co service, you can track how many clicks an X.co URL receives across the web, trending charts organizing the URL’s views by month and day, and how and where the X.co URL is reposted.
Whether X.co will gain market traction against the various other URL shorteners on the market remains to be seen. Its features are, however, impressive (and free) and Go Daddy certainly has a huge customer base to which it can promote X.co.
Finally, I have to say, X.co is a pretty cool domain!
