GDGT Gadget Social Site Launches

By Anna Johnson on July 13th, 2009

A new gadget social site, GDGT, has launched, led by Engadget editor-in-chief Ryan Block and former editor-in-chief Peter Rojas.

GDGT (pronounced ‘gadget’) is a ‘highly structured wiki’ where anyone can edit information on the site, and where everything is highly structured to allow for data to be analysed in different ways.

Products on GDGT are grouped into logical categories and each product description has detailed specifications with the ability for users to add reviews and ratings. There is also a forum for users to discuss gadgets.

Right now there are a bunch of categories and thousands of products in GDGT, and users are expected to quickly add more.

TechCrunch speculates that GDGT has been funded with about $500,000 from True Ventures, Betaworks and some angel investors.
