Gawker Media Empire Going Strong After 10 Years
By Anna Johnson on September 7th, 2009If newspapers aren’t seriously worried about the threat of blogs yet, they should be. Take the 10 year old Gawker Media blog network. Based on comScore data, Gawker Media reached 7.4 million unique visitors in the U.S. in July 2009. That’s higher than the LA Times, at 6.3 million, and approaching the New York Times, at 9.6 million.
According to Silicon Alley Insider, an inside source says the gap between page views is even greater between the LA Times and Gawker properties. They reckon Gawker is getting 350 million monthly pageviews, while the LA Times is getting about 130 million.
Furthermore, the Silicon Alley Insider reports that Gawker revenues were up 45 percent year-over-year in June 2009.
