FriendFeed Introduces Really Real-Time Search

By Anna Johnson on July 4th, 2009

FriendFeed has introduced an enhanced version of its real-time search engine whereby it delivers a constantly updated stream of results for each search query.

While you might have previously clicked ‘refresh’ to see an updated version of FriendFeed’s real-time results, now you don’t have to: FriendFeed does it for you.

FriendFeed search lets you search what your FriendFeed friends are talking about or, alternatively, what everybody is talking about. There are also advanced search options, the ability to save searches, and a real-time FriendFeed search you can embed on your blog or webpage.

Here’s my suggestion for making this even cooler: let users control the frequency of stream updates. I say this because in some highly discussed topics, the stream updates may be so constant as to be distracting. They may refresh so often that it’s difficult to explore specific results.

If users can, say, set the update to be every 60 seconds, every 2 minutes, every 5 minutes or in ‘real real-time’ then that would allow people to review results at a pace that suits them.

How about it, FriendFeed?
