By Anna Johnson on July 20th, 2010Online outsourcing marketplace Freelancer.com has acquired Freemarket.com, launching it as an online marketplace for designers and others to sell virtual goods, such as stock logos, website templates, stationery, images, sound clips, 3D models, themes and more.
In private beta for the last couple of weeks, Freemarket.com now has over 5,000 items for sale, primarily provided by Freelancer.com’s community of remote workers. Freelancer.com Chief Executive Matt Barrie envisages Freemarket.com as the ‘iTunes for designers, content creators and programmers.’
Freelancer.com itself has a user base of 1.7 million small and medium-sized businesses from around the world (up from 1 million in October 2009) and says it has outsourced more than 725,000 projects to date.
