Fortune 100 CEOs Shy Away From Social Media
By Anna Johnson on June 29th, 2009Research by UberCEO.com indicates that CEOs from the top 100 U.S. public companies are barely engaging in social media.
UberCEO.com’s research reveals that of these CEOs:
- Only two have Twitter accounts.
- 13 have LinkedIn profiles, and only three of those have more than 10 connections.
- 81 percent of CEOs don’t have a personal Facebook page.
- 75 percent of the CEOs have some kind of Wikipedia entry, but nearly a third of these have much (or outdated) information.
- None have a blog.
Sharon Barclay, editor at UberCEO.com, said she was shocked at the findings.
“It’s shocking that the top CEOs can appear to be so disconnected from the way their own customers are communicating. They’re giving the impression that they’re disconnected, disengaged and disinterested,” she said in a press release.
Maybe.
But maybe, given their roles, they have better things to do with their time than Tweet, blog or go on Facebook…

This is a great article giving out the statistics, maybe after these results, the CEO’s will realise how they can take advantage of business through technology. Internet can’t be ignored anymore.
Any business either on line or off line depends on the traffic for their survival so in this case there is no exception to any industry. Also, given that today’s consumers spend 20-30% of their free time on line, marketing should be targeted on the web.
This is a great opportunity for small businesses to compete with the big guys!
