FileTwt Lets You Share Files via Twitter
By Anna Johnson on May 28th, 2009FileTwt is a new service that enables file transfers using Twitter. You can use it to share everything from slideshows to documents to ebooks and music files. You can also mass share files via public streams or multiple-recipient direct messages.
According to ReadWriteWeb, using FileTwt is currently a bit cumbersome, and file sizes are capped at 20 MB. The service is set to evolve and improve, however, with a better user interface, upload progress bar, virus scan, and mobile capabilities all in development.
In terms of dealing with the inevitable bugbear of piracy, FileTwt states that its policy is to respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement.
As ReadWriteWeb points out, it may be difficult to identify copyright infringement where files are shared one-to-one or one-to-a-few. On the other hand, should the issue ever come up, it remains to be seen whether a court would look kindly upon this somewhat passive approach.
For now, however, FileTwt is the first real peer-to-peer solution for sharing files via Twitter.
