Facebook’s New API To Kill Twitter?
By Anna Johnson on February 9th, 2009Facebook has updated its application programming interface (API) in a move to make Facebook substantially more ‘developer friendly’.
As a result of the initiative, Facebook developers will be able to create applications that read and post status updates, links and notes to Facebook, and even create apps that will allow videos to be uploaded directly to a user’s account. This builds upon the existing API which allows for photos to be uploaded and viewed.
According to Nick O’Neill, writer of ‘the unofficial Facebook resource’ the move positions Facebook to ‘kill’ Twitter. O’Neill attributes much of Twitter’s success to the fact that, early on, it allowed third party developers to create applications that would integrate with Twitter.
Maybe, but let’s not forget the fact that Twitter and Facebook are also quite different services…
