Facebook Traffic Tops MySpace in U.S.
By Anna Johnson on June 16th, 2009Data from comScore shows that Facebook attracted slightly more monthly traffic in May than did MySpace in the U.S. This means that Facebook – for long the runner-up to MySpace in the U.S. – is now the most popular U.S. social network.
According to comScore Facebook had 70.278 million unique visitors in May, while MySpace had 70.255 million. Facebook attracted 2.8 million unique visitors in the U.S. while MySpace’s traffic declined by 700,000 uniques.
We can expect Facebook’s traffic to have increased further in June, substantially helped by the release of free vanity URLs. According to TechCrunch, within 3 days of the release of the vanity URLs over 6 million users had signed up.
MySpace folks must be feeling the irony considering they offered vanity URLs from the start.
