Based on global comScore data, the Facebook social network has more than twice the audience of its main rival MySpace, and continues to grow at an impressive rate.

In February 2009 Facebook’s unique visitors grew by 16.6 percent to reach 276 million, while MySpace’s visitors dropped by 2 percent to 124 million unique visitors.

  1. Larry Says:

Both facebook and myspace are being penetrated by an organized
international crime syndicate. I received messages/comments with the
same text and then sending a picture of a model black woman.
These messages comes from Nigeria or generally in Africa. These
syndicates take advantage of the 2 programs.

I’m not surprised if this is the case. Organized crime is very sophisticated and Internet-savvy these days. They are no doubt going where they think there’s money to be made (stolen).

  3. John Harmer Says:

As has been said, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics. So what do these published statistics tell us. Not much, really. Larry may well be correct in what he says. Personally, I don\’t know. What I do know is that statistics by themselves are of no practical use. Unless we also know what the point of the statistic is. To be effective, any statistic must compare apples with apples.

In order to tell us something meaningful, we would need to know what classes of people frequent both forums, and why they frequent them. Fot instance, if we checked and found that one was catering to business minded people while the other was focusing on students, all we would discover from the statistic is that students might have more time (or less) to spend on the forum they frequent than do the business minded people.

Now that would be a wonderful statistic for marketers to have. they could target their advertising much more effectively.
