eBay Mobile Sales Up 146 Percent on Cyber Monday
By Anna Johnson on December 7th, 2010Cyber Monday 2010 wasn’t just a record breaking day for PC based Internet sales. U.S. mobile commerce sales also shot up, with mobile sales on eBay up by 146 percent over Cyber Monday last year.
Overall, eBay expects gross sales via mobile to surpass $1.5 billion this year, more than double the $600 million achieved in 2009.
Meanwhile, eBay found some interesting statistics about mobile users who used eBay on Cyber Monday:
- Mobile shopping was most popular in the U.S. states of California, Nevada, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Florida;
- 5 pm to 7 pm PST was the most active shopping time period;
- Two thirds of eBay’s mobile shoppers used an iPhone; the remaining third used platforms including Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7;
- The highest value transactions were in the cars and trucks category; and
- Cell phones, personal digital assistant (PDA) accessories and women’s clothing were the categories with the most number of transactions.
