Domainer Income Introduces Trademark Checking

By Anna Johnson on December 21st, 2010

As a domain name owner or investor, the last thing you want to receive is a nasty lawyer’s letter demanding that you give up your domain name because it infringes some company’s trademark.

The good news is that if you use Domainer Income when evaluating domain names to buy, you’ll now be able to check whether or not your domain name matches a registered trademark.

While there are plenty of instances where it’s obvious that a domain name matches – and is likely to infringe – a major company’s trademark, there are many more where you wouldn’t ordinarily know your domain name infringes someone else’s trademark. This is simply because of the enormous number of trademarks registered by various companies and individuals in different countries around the world.

And that’s not to mention the variation and complexity of the trademark laws operating in those different countries!

While you should always consult a qualified lawyer if you ever receive one of these nasty letters, Domainer Income can help prevent this from happening with its new trademark checking feature.

Currently available in the Domainer Income ccTLD Drops area – where you can identify dropping (a.k.a. ‘expiring’) Country Code Top Level Domains such as .ca and .com.au domains – the new ‘TM’ column shows you if a trademark registered in Australia matches a .com.au domain name you are interested in buying.

All Domainer Income Professional members have access to the ccTLD Drops area. You can sign up here: Domainer Income

Checking for Australian registered trademarks is just the start. Domainer Income will be introducing functionality to check U.S. trademarks in the near future.
