Domain Extension .CO Reaches 500,000 Registrations

According to .CO Internet S.A.S. (www.COinternet.co) 37 percent of current .co registrations are with U.S. registrants, whilst the domain has also proved popular in many other countries.
The top ten countries in terms of their percentage of .CO registrations are as follows:
- United States: 37 percent
- United Kingdom: 17 percent
- Colombia: 12 percent
- Australia: 4 percent
- Canada: 4 percent
- Germany: 3 percent
- India: 2 percent
- China: 2 percent
- France: 2 percent
- Poland: 2 percent
No question, an effective marketing campaign helped by a strong distribution network have driven registrations. The .Co registry has profited from partnerships with such leading registrars and domain resellers as GoDaddy.com, OpenSRS, Network Solutions, eNom, Inc. and 1&1 Internet AG.
The .co domain extension is also proving valuable in the domain name aftermarket. Some recent auction sales include:
- Mesothelioma.co: sold for $76,000;
- Insure.co: sold for $60,000;
- DuiAttorney.co: sold for $44,500;
- Slots.co: sold for $41,000;
- Aspen.co: sold for $22,500;
- Vehicles.co: sold for $18,500;
- Sites.co: sold for $15,500; and
- UsedCars.co: sold for $14,000.
The .CO Registry plans to auction single-letter and other premium domains in the near future.
