Does Google Give Greater Weight To Google Links?
By Anna Johnson on September 9th, 2009In a recent Google Webmaster Central YouTube Channel video, Matt Cutts discusses the question of whether, when it comes to PageRank, Google places greater authoritative weight on links from Google.
As you might know, the potential for links from Google spans such Google products as Google News, Google Bookmarks, Google Profiles, Google Knol, YouTube, Blogger, and others.
Matt Cutts’ answer seems to be a qualified ‘no.’ Google aims to ensure its sites aren’t ‘spammable’ and will use a nofollow tag in links from its sites if there is potential for abuse.
That said, in relation to Google Knol for example, while the nofollow tag is initially applied to all authors, it is lifted for trustworthy Knol authors.
