Dataopedia: Free Web Intelligence Tool
By Anna Johnson on December 29th, 2008Here’s another great, free tool for getting invaluable competitive intelligence: Dataopedia.com. Just visit the site, type in a website URL, and up will come a host of traffic and other information about that site.
Among other things, Dataopedia displays:
- Traffic estimates from Alexa, Compete and Quantcast;
- The Google PageRank;
- The breakdown of visitors in terms of country of origin;
- A screen grab of the site; and
- The latest online mentions of the site among such social media and news sites as Twitter, TechCrunch, Google News and GetSatisfaction.
There is also technical data which displays, among other things, information about who owns the domain and their contact information (if available).
That’s not all.
Dataopedia also comes with a suite of tools to make it easy for you to access website information.
You can register and have data sent to you via email in a customized format. You can use Twitter to send a tweet to Dataopedia (http://twitter.com/dataopedia) with the URL of the website you want to know about, and then receive an automatic tweet with a link to information about that site.
There is also a Firefox bookmarklet you can add beneath your browser bar. Just visit a website and click the bookmarklet and a new browser window will open with Dataopedia information about that site.
Personally, I can’t wait for the Firefox add-on (coming soon) that sits in the lower right hand side of your browser bar and displays customizable data for every webpage you visit.
And there’s a host of other features too.
All in all, Dataopedia is a great tool for viewing consolidated information about other sites. And it’s not just useful for assessing competitors, either. It’s also useful for assessing sites you might want to advertise on, or for seeing how the world views YOUR OWN sites.
