Coupon Sites Booming in Down Economy
By Anna Johnson on February 21st, 2009Recent studies indicate the growing popularity of coupon sites as economic conditions have worsened in the United States.
Data from Compete shows that the number of visitors to Coupons.com (which allows consumers to print off coupons to be redeemed in physical stores) has grown from 8.5 million unique visitors in November 2008 to over 14 million unique visitors per month recently.
Meanwhile, according to comScore’s “State of the US Online Retail Economy: Q3 2008″ report, 62 percent of U.S. consumers who decreased their shopping expenses in October 2008 used coupons more often to do so.
Furthermore, as reported by eMarketer, comScore data indicates that coupon sites were the fastest-growing online category in November 2008, up 32 percent from October to 35.6 million visitors in November.
