Consumers Happy To Buy Drugs Online

By Anna Johnson on October 22nd, 2009

A study by Lightspeed Research shows that many Internet users are happy to buy prescription drugs online. According to the study, one in five consumers buy drugs online, with 30 percent of those aged 55 and over doing so.

Of those who buy drugs online, half buy drugs for which they have a prescription from their physician. They like buying drugs via the Internet due to the convenience and lower relative cost of doing so. 61 percent are attracted to the convenience of home delivery, while 59 percent buy online because the price is lower than that at their local pharmacy.

Consumers are still wary of buying drugs and medications online, however, with 68 percent concerned about drugs being counterfeit, 49 percent worrying that the online pharmacy is not legitimate, 46 percent concerned that the drugs they receive are not FDA-approved, and 38 percent worried that their insurer won’t reimburse them for using an online pharmacy.

Nevertheless, only 5 percent of those who buy drugs online have ever experienced a problem.
