Consumers Embrace Mobile Technologies Worldwide

By Anna Johnson on May 26th, 2010

According to research by Survey Sampling International (SSI) consumers worldwide are increasingly embracing mobile technologies – from laptop computers to smart phones.

In Japan, more consumers own laptop computers (73 percent) than desktop computers (54 percent), and in the United Kingdom and Spain, laptops have caught up with desktops.

Even in the U.S. where more people still own desktops, the trend among younger adults is to have a laptop, rather than a desktop. In the U.S. 80 percent of 18 – 24 year olds own laptops, while just 67 percent own desktops.

Meanwhile, SSI’s survey of consumers in the U.S, U.K, France, Spain and Japan reveals that in every country studied, more than 70 percent of participants own cell phones. That number exceeds 80 percent in France, Spain and Japan. What’s more, in all countries except France, more people own cell phones than landline phones.
