Public relations firm Porter Novelli’s recently released report, ‘The Future of News’ indicates that ‘citizen journalism’ is changing the nature of news as we know it.

According to Porter Novelli, citizen journalism – facilitated and empowered by online social media – is impacting both the role and definition of news in modern society.

It’s also introducing a number of challenges. While anyone can report news in one way or another – whether on Twitter, a blog, or by some other means – in some ways, the rise in news sources is, on the one hand, ‘cheapening’ news but on the other, bringing the trustworthiness of all news sources into question.
