Smartphone Apps Market Doubles in Just 6 Months

The worldwide smartphone applications market generated $2.2 billion dollars in sales revenues in the first six months of 2010, according to research2guidance.

This is considerably more than the $1.7 billion in revenues generated by the apps market in all of 2009, and puts the market on track to more than double this year.

Interactive Magazines and Newspapers To Reach $3 Billion in Subscription Sales

Interactive magazines and newspapers are expected to attract $3 billion in subscription revenues by 2014, according to research from Oliver Wyman.

After accounting for the potential cannibalization of print subscriptions, Oliver Wyman says the publishing industry could realize $1.3 billion in incremental subscription sales from interactive periodicals.

Google Tests Dynamic Search Results

Google is testing dynamic search results – search results that update as you type – with a small number of Google search engine users.

Check out the video below to see Rob Ousbey’s footage of how Google is dynamically displaying search results based on what Rob types into the search query field. TechCrunch has obtained confirmation from Google that the video is real.

Google Launches Enhanced CPC To Boost Adwords ROI

Google has introduced ‘Enhanced CPC’ to its Google Adwords paid search product. Enhanced CPC automatically adjusts the maximum you’re willing to bid on a given keyword, based on how likely your ad will convert i.e. elicit a click-through.

Enhanced CPC looks at your campaign’s historical conversion tracking data to automatically adjust your Max CPC bid based on the probability of your ad converting into a click. As a result, you should get more conversions, whilst maintaining or reducing your overall cost-per-acquisition (CPA). You should also end up spending less time manually adjusting your Max CPC bids.

Yahoo Tests ‘Infinite Browse’ Pre-Loaded Search Results on Yahoo News

Yahoo is testing a new module for Yahoo! News called ‘Infinite Browse’ which will allow Yahoo News users to view search results related to a given Yahoo News item without leaving the page.

Currently available to a small number of Yahoo News users, Infinite Browse involves the display of a box below an article displaying images, videos, news articles, slideshows and search suggestions related to the topic you’re reading about.

Twitter’s Tweet Button To Replace TweetMeme

Twitter has introduced its own Tweet Button, as TweetMeme (the company behind the original green retweet button) aims to withdraw from the ‘retweet market’ and focus on other products.

Google To Combine Updated Keyword Tool and Search-Based Keyword Tool

Google plans to combine its updated Keyword Tool (currently in beta) with its search-based Keyword Tool into one comprehensive tool.

According to Dan Friedman of Google’s Inside AdWords crew, Google intends to replace the two tools (which will continue to be available in their current forms until the end of August) with a single tool sporting the following features (existing and new):

iPad To Be Top Technology Gift For Christmas 2010

Is it Christmas already? Not just yet, but according to electrical retailer DSG International plc – owner of Currys and PC World in the U.K. – Apple’s iPad will top Christmas lists as the most popular technology gift for Christmas 2010.

DSGi expects the IPad – recently launched in its Currys and PC World stores – to be the most popular gift among the 5,000 plus products on its shelves this Christmas. With other manufacturers due to launch rivals to the iPad later in the year, DSGi expects tablets to outsell netbooks by two to one by December.

Apple’s iAd Mobile Advertising Product Lets Developers Advertise in Other Apps

Apple has released a new version of its iAd mobile advertising product that allows application developers to advertise their software applications within other third party applications.

Developers will be able to display iAd banners in other applications which will, in turn, link to their products in Apple’s App Store. This will enable mobile users to download such apps without leaving the app they’re already using.
