Business vs Money: Which Matters Most?
By Anna Johnson on January 30th, 2009There seem to be too main types of people attracted to Internet marketing. On the one hand, you have people who are predominately motivated by the idea of building an online business. A business which will ideally produce significant financial rewards.
On the other hand, you have people whose main aim is to make money and for whom the Internet appears to be an ideal vehicle for enabling that.
There’s nothing wrong with falling into either group, but I do believe the first group – people for whom the ‘business comes first and the money second’ – have a number of inherent advantages over those who are motivated by making money first, and building an online business second.
I could (and may) write a few articles discussing these advantages. But they can all be summed up by a rather simple idea. The idea that, for the first group, the journey (i.e. building a business) IS the reward.
The importance of this lies in the harsh reality that, for most people, the journey towards success and financial freedom (which both groups typically seek) is long and arduous, and, as a result, only those who ENJOY the journey are likely to persist when the going gets tough.
Jay Abraham implores marketers to fall in love with their customers, rather than their products. Similarly, I say: fall in love with building a business, not making money. And a funny thing will happen: you’ll actually make more money.
