Bing Usage Slows against Google
By Anna Johnson on September 23rd, 2009If Bing ever proves a formidable alternative to Google, it may take a LONG time. Research from StatCounter indicates that Bing’s U.S. search market share grew by just 0.23 percent in August to reach 9.64 percent, the slowest monthly growth rate since its launch.
StatCounter also found that the combined share of Bing and Yahoo declined slightly in August to 20.14 percent, down slightly from 20.36 percent in July.
Notably, Bing’s share peaked at 10.98 percent in the week of August 10-16, 2009, but has declined ever since. Meanwhile, Google’s search market share edged upwards in August – from 77.54 percent to 77.83 percent.
Microsoft and Yahoo had a combined 8.42 percent share of the worldwide search market in August, down 0.35 percent from July (8.77 percent), while Google continued to dominate the worldwide search landscape with its search share of 89.57 percent in August (89.23 percent in July).
StatCounter’s figures are based on analyzing 1.073 billion search engine referring clicks (272 million from the United States) which were collected in July and August from the StatCounter network of over 3 million websites.
