Baby Boomers Embrace Online Travel
By Anna Johnson on August 19th, 2009Research by Orangesmile.com has found that adults aged 55 and over are increasingly booking their travel online.
While in 2006, 55+ year olds accounted for 13.9 percent of all online bookings, in 2008 their share reached 16.7 percent. In 2009, it’s expected to climb to 18.5 percent, and by 2011 55+ year olds are predicted to account for 21.5 percent of online reservations.
What’s behind such growth? According to Orangesmile.com, the increase in online travel bookings by 55+ year olds is due to their growing ease in using the Internet, their relatively stable income allowing them to travel more often, and the general aging of the population.
