Baby Boomers are Big Social Media Consumers
By Anna Johnson on February 25th, 2009A new report from Forrester Research reveals that over 60 percent of U.S. ‘baby boomers’ (people born between 1945 and 1965) actively consume ‘social media’ including blogs, videos, podcasts and forums.
Since 2007, the percentage of baby boomers consuming social media has jumped dramatically. Back then, 46 percent of those aged 43 to 52, and 39 percent of those aged 53 to 63, used social media. By 2008, the percentages were 67 percent and 62 percent, respectively.
Baby boomers aren’t just passively consuming social media either. They are actively using it, with the proportion of older boomers (aged 53 to 63) responding to content doubling from 15 percent in 2007 to 34 percent in 2008.
Meanwhile, almost 25 percent of younger boomers are active on social networks, up from 15 percent in 2007.
