And The Hottest Social Network is… AOL?
By Anna Johnson on February 19th, 2009Research by comScore indicates that the U.S. audience for social networking sites grew by 13 percent between December 2007 and December 2008.
But while MySpace and Facebook continue to dominate, some other less known sites grew by significantly more than either of those networks last year.
MySpace grew by 10 percent to reach 75,919,000 unique visitors in December 2008, while Facebook grew by 57 percent to reach 54,552,000 uniques and third most popular network, Flickr, grew by 53 percent to reach 20,698,000 unique visitors.
But the true stand-out is AOL Community, which grew by a massive 22,701 percent during the year. It grew from 40,000 unique visitors in December 2007 to an impressive 9,208,000 uniques in December 2008.
The second biggest mover was Sodahead, which went from 166,000 unique visitors in December 2007 to 2,291 unique visitors in December 2008.
