Amazon Kindle Available To International Buyers

By Anna Johnson on October 12th, 2009

Amazon has lowered the price of its standard Kindle ebook reading device and, in good news for those of us living outside the United States, made available a new Kindle able to wirelessly download books both in the United States and in over 100 other countries.

The price cut for the U.S. Kindle sees the device available for $259, down from $299. The price drop – which follows a price drop from $359 to $299 in July 2009 – is no doubt due to increasing competitive pressure from the likes of Sony and others (Sony’s ebook reader is available for $199).

The ‘international’ Kindle, i.e. the device equipped with U.S. and international wireless, is available for $279 and will have a collection of around 200,000 English-language books available for download (less than the 350,000 available for the U.S. version) with catalogs tailored to the country in which the device is bought.
