Allrecipes.com Tops Online Food Category in 2009
By Anna Johnson on January 19th, 2010Based on comScore data, Allrecipes.com was the most visited website in the food and cooking category throughout 2009, with December seeing the site attract a record 13 million visitors.
Allrecipes.com, which – with 13 years under its belt – is one of the oldest mainstream sites online, grew 13 percent from December 2008 to December 2009, reflecting its sixth year of sustained double-digit growth.
In December, Allrecipes.com’ 13 million visitors consumed some 210 million pages of content on the site, ranging from holiday recipes, to reviews, to blog posts, to how-to guides.
In 2009, the online food category attracted 1.6 billion visits, with 11 billion pages viewed. In November – generally the busiest cooking month of the year (largely owing to Thanksgiving in the U.S.) – 54 million unique visitors converged on 1.12 billion pages on food websites. comScore estimates this to be about 25 percent of the November Internet audience. Meanwhile, according to comScore, one out of three women online went to a food website in 2009.
