86 Percent of Women Using Social Networks
By Anna Johnson on December 21st, 2009Research by SheSpeaks indicates that 86 percent of women are now using popular social networks, a 48 percent increase over the number in 2008.
Moreover, social networks including Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, are influencing women’s purchasing behavior. 50 percent of women social media users are buying products due to information found on social networking sites, and 40 percent are using coupon codes obtained on social networks.
Based on 1,000 survey responses from SheSpeak’s national membership, SheSpeak’s second annual Social Media Study also finds that women 50+ years of age are much more active on social networks compared with last year.
Social media participation by 50+ women in has grown from 31 percent in 2008 to 70 percent in 2009, while participation among younger women has increased by 10 percent in the last year.
Women are also visiting social networks more often, with 73 percent of women accessing a social network at least once per day, compared with 53 percent in 2008.
Facebook is the most popular social network among women, with 95 percent of women social network users accessing that network. Meanwhile, nearly 40 percent of women social network users now have Twitter accounts. MySpace participation has, however, declined from 63 percent in 2008 to 42 percent in 2009.
Finally, women are also embracing online video, with almost 40 percent of women frequently watching video and TV content online, and 85 percent watching it at least sometimes.

This is critical information….
Since women spend about 70 % of all money spent online (last time I checked).
That means if you use SEO to target women, you may very well be going
after the minority…
It simply adds to the fact that women are emotionally driven people
(thank heavens – the world would be boring otherwise….:) – that
would rather follow their hearts than their minds.
So:
1. Women hang out on social networks…
2. Women spend most of the money…
3. Women are emotionally driven…
Anyone who knows an inkling about using emotion to drive sales will be
able to use this info to make a killing…
