8 Out of 10 U.S. Internet Users Visit Google

By Anna Johnson on June 21st, 2010

Just how dominant is Google on the Internet? Think of it this way: 8 out of 10 U.S. Internet users visited a Google website at least once in May 2010, according to data from comScore.

comScore’s ranking of the most popular U.S. web properties in May 2010 shows Google at top spot with an estimated 179 million unique visitors. Based on comScore’s total U.S. Internet traffic estimate of 215 million users during the month, Google got some 83 percent of that Internet traffic. In other words, 8 out of 10 Internet users visited a Google website at least once in May 2010.

Based on unique visitors, Google was followed by Yahoo with 167 million unique visitors in May 2010 and Microsoft with 160 million. Rounding out the top five were Facebook with 130 million and AOL with 112 million.

We can therefore say that 7 out of 10 U.S. Internet users visited Yahoo and Microsoft, while 6 out of 10 visited Facebook and 5 out of 10 visited AOL in May 2010.

So, while Google clearly sits atop the heap when it comes to the most visited web properties among U.S. Internet users, the other big online brands also get a huge proportion of web traffic.
