6 Ways For Product Owners To Keep Affiliates Happy
By Anna Johnson on June 22nd, 2009A recent article by Justin Brooke provides some great tips for product owners looking to maintain good relationships with their affiliates… and ensure those affiliates keep on promoting their products.
Justin indicates that the balance of power between product owners (or merchants) and their affiliates has tipped in the favor of affiliates.
In light of the huge competition between product owners to get affiliates to promote their products, product owners need to do much more nowadays to keep their affiliates happy and promoting on their behalf.
As such, Justin Brooks provides six tips for keeping affiliates onside.
My understanding of these are as follows:
- Offer affiliates something unique to promote.
- Provide every possible resource – from promotional materials to bonuses – to help affiliates make the sale.
- Regularly update the promotional tools you provide to your affiliates.
- Keep updated as to what your affiliates need from you.
- Protect your affiliate’s commissions during launches and otherwise. For example, utilize technology that ensures affiliates are rewarded for sales they bring about.
- Never deny affiliates their commissions on backend sales.

Just saw this come up in my Google Alerts. Thanks for helping me get the word out about what product owners should be doing. It’s time that they evolve like the affiliates have had to evolve.
P.S. I like your blog, especially how you use a lot of banners that most people aren’t. It’s like a breath of fresh air to see something different! I already have 3 hosting accounts including a dedicated server and i’m still considering that 90 day free trial right underneath this box hahaha
