4 Tips For Effective Link Building
By Anna Johnson on March 19th, 2009Writing in The Search Engine Standard, Rebecca Appleton observes that a ‘hit and run’ approach to link building does not set you or your website up for long-term success, as far as search engine optimization (SEO) goes.
Instead, she offers four tips for an effective link building strategy.
Here’s a short summary of Rebecca’s tips:
- Find out who links to your competition. Relevant sites that link to your competition might be prime candidates to link to you.
- Devise a well-thought out approach to getting others to link to your site. In some cases, this may simply be a matter of contributing articles or blog posts. In others it may require a personal approach by email and/or telephone. One thing I would urge you to AVOID is a generic link request email. We get these all the time, and they go right into the trash!
- Look at the top 10 results for your targeted search phrases in the major search engines. These may be potential link partners for you.
- Find out what other sites your audience frequents. Such sites may also provide a rich source of potential link partners.
