3 Out of 4 European Internet Users Shop Online
By Anna Johnson on April 13th, 2011Research from comScore, Inc. shows that in January 2011, 74.5 percent of European Internet users (270.6 million) visited online retailers. This is 8.5 percent more than in January 2010.
In the United Kingdom, 89.4 percent of Internet users visited online retailers (6.3 percent more than in 2010), while 87 percent of French Internet users (up 10.5 points), and 82.1 percent of German Internet users (up 9.0 points) did the same.
Other countries with a high level of online retail usage were Ireland (80.7 percent of its Internet users) and the Netherlands (80.2 percent).
In January 2010, the most popular types of online retail sites in Europe were comparison shopping sites (visited by 31.6 percent of European Internet users), apparel (28.4 percent) and consumer electronics (27.1 percent).
