By Anna Johnson on January 29th, 2009

If you want more Twitter followers, here are 10 tips you might find useful. As mentioned above, having more Twitter followers may be great… but beware the negative networking effect…

In any case, Kevin Rose – founder of Digg, cofounder of Revision3 and Pownce, and an investor in Twitter – recently posted some useful tips in a guest post on TechCrunch.

Kevin should know. He has over 88,000 followers on Twitter, making him the second most followed Twitter member after U.S. President Obama. Here’s a brief summary of Kevin Rose’s tips:

  1. Encourage followers to retweet your links.
  2. Fill out your user profile.
  3. Place links to your Twitter profile everywhere.
  4. Tweet about your interests and #hash tag them. (Visit Hashtags for information about the value of hash tagging).
  5. Mention your Twitter account to everyone you meet (off-line as well as online).
  6. Take photographs and tweet them.
  7. Start a contest where you offer a prize for the number of followers you get.
  8. Follow the top Twitter users and do what they do.
  9. Get involved in #hash tag memes.

10. Use a service to monitor how many followers you have. TwitterCounter will tell you how many new users you add per day and Qwitter will email you when someone unfollows you after a tweet.
