10 Link Building Tips From Bing

By Anna Johnson on December 2nd, 2009

Rick DeJarnette of the Bing Webmaster Center recently wrote a great article detailing Bing’s approach to link building. As part of the article, Rick listed 10 link building tips to help Internet marketers and webmasters maximize their chances of generating lots of high quality inbound links… and thereby improve their search engine rankings.

On that basis, here are 10 link building tips from Bing:

  1. Build your website with a business brand and consistently apply that branding to your content.
  2. Identify and contact industry experts, product reviewers, bloggers and the media about your website and content.
  3. Write and distribute press releases about newsworthy developments regarding your business.
  4. Write and post articles to online article directories which establish your expertise.
  5. Comment/post on relevant blogs and discussion boards, including links back to your site. Note that even where links in blog comments are not counted as backlinks by the search engines (i.e. because they are tagged with the ‘no follow’ attribute) you still have the chance to get inbound links from readers who like your content.
  6. Participate on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to connect with those in your industry.
  7. Publish an online newsletter on your site where subscribers receive notification emails whenever you release a new issue.
  8. Implement a blog or discussion board on your site to facilitate both content and interaction.
  9. Join relevant industry associations and participate in their online discussion forums.
  10. Aim to become a trusted authority in your industry and promote your website as a source of great information.
