1 in 5 Americans Use Internet To Find Bargains and Discounts
By Anna Johnson on August 16th, 2010Experian Marketing Services’ annual holiday benchmark report reveals that 1 in 5 U.S. consumers (26 percent) use the Internet to find bargains and discounts.
The report – which focuses on how shoppers respond to holiday offers – also indicates that, in the next 12 months, 24 percent of online consumers expect to be comparing prices and 22 percent expect to be purchasing items from their mobile phones.
Experian says online communications are having a big impact on offline sales, with its research showing that consumers are more likely to open emails that promote in-store-only offers.
Consumers are also embracing gift cards, with searches for ‘discounted gift cards’ highly searched on during the 2009 holiday season, and expected to rise again over the 2010 holiday season.

I was surprised to hear that only 26% of U.S. consumers rely on the internet to find deals or make purchases. I would have thought it would be 35% or more.
